What paint do I need?

Hey, we get it!

If you don’t know what you are looking for, buying paint can be bamboozling! Well, not to worry, we’ve got your back!

First question, what are you painting?

Walls and ceilings?

You need emulsion. This comes in both matt and silk.
Matt has a flat finish, which is great for covering imperfections, as they reflect less light, making the surface appear flatter and can make rooms feel cosier.

Silk is ideal for those who prefer a shinier look, and it is also wipeable. Whilst bathroom and kitchen emulsions offer a moisture resistant soft-sheen finish which is well suited to high condensation areas.

Outdoor brick and masonry?

Masonry paint is what you’re after! Weatherproof and hard wearing its ideal for those outdoor projects!

Woodwork?

So, we have options for you on this one! In a nutshell there are different levels of ‘sheen’, ranging form gloss (high shine) to eggshell (low shine). Oil based wood paints are more hard wearing, but water based are quicker drying and will stay white longer. There really are a lot of options with this one, so call in and have a chat with any of our amazing team if you need help!

Sheds or fences?

Head on down to the timbercare aisle! This comes in lots of different colours, and is great for not only colouring your outdoor wood but also protecting it!

Furniture?

Upcycling some furniture? Give chalk paint a go! It’s easy to use, just open a tin and get painting! It comes in a range of lovely colours. We recommend sealing with a wax or varnish to protect once you have finished painting, again just pop in and chat with us if you need any advice!
